mist tree sculpture

Engineering Art

TROCOFAB's long-time collaboration with sculptor Douglas Hollis proved to be crucial on the execution of this piece. The original vision from the artist lacked a structural component necessary to preserve the physical integrity of the monument. Our team of engineers suggested a central ring to keep the components together, while our metal craftsmen ensured the solution wouldn't obstruct the sculpture's artistic expression.

Located on the picnic lawn of Discovery Green, the Mist Tree incorporates elements of water and mist in the stainless steel sculpture. TROCOFAB was able to seal and pressure test the tubes for construction, eliminating the need for plumbing as originally designed. This allowed the sculpture to be fabricated at a substantial cost savings. TROCOFAB also provided an innovative way of satisfying the engineering requirements for seismic constraints.
